Venice, Italy

Venice, the capital of northern Italy’s Veneto region, is built on more than 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea.

It has no roads, just canals – including the Grand Canal thoroughfare – lined with Renaissance and Gothic palaces. The central square, Piazza San Marco, contains St. Mark’s Basilica, which is tiled with Byzantine mosaics, and the Campanile bell tower offering views of the city’s red roofs.

Venice is glorious, more romantic, more beautiful and more surprising than you could expect. No matter how many photographs or films you may have seen, it is still a jaw-dropping experience seeing Venice’s canals and palaces for the first time.

That first cruise down the Grand Canal is one of life’s unforgettable experiences. Venice is composed of more than a hundred tiny islets, packed closely together around canals. The city is in a lagoon, protected from the sea by a long strip of land called the Lido. Venice is famously sinking

Excursions

Our excursions are carefully planned as part of your holiday. They will be local so no long coach journies getting there and back. There will be ample things to do and see but we’ll pick the ones best suited to you. Venice, Italy’s Floating City, sits on a network of 26 picturesque canals. Cars are banned on the winding, Renaissance-era streets, so we will explore by foot or by water. This unique combination tour takes you on a guided stroll through Venice’s mythic cobbled Old City, topped off by an unforgettable gondola ride, undoubtedly the most traditional way to see the city. So, no rushing, no long queuing, just take your time to enjoy yourself. We will stop for a break, snack, coffee, chai whenever you feel like it. Navigating the cobbled backstreets, we’ll come face-to-face with classic landmarks like the 18th-century opera house of Teatro la Fenice, Venice’s oldest bridge, and an under-the-radar antique staircase named after a snail for its unique spiral shape. You’ll get the perfect overview of the city’s must-see sites.

End the tour with a one-of-a-kind view of the city from a spectacular vantage point: by boat. You’ll step into an iconic gondola and float down Venice’s turquoise waterways, admiring the majestic palaces that line the Grand Canal.
